              WEG Background

After completing 30 years as a special education administrator, instructional specialist, and teacher in Montgomery County, MD, public schools, Rich Weinfeld established Weinfeld Education Group, LLC (WEG) in 2005 to provide extensive school consultation and training to public school districts, and private schools as well as providing extensive advocacy and assessment services to families and individuals throughout the Washington, DC area.  Mr. Weinfeld recognized a need for expert help for individual children and their families and endeavored to create a group that provided education, advocacy, assessment and support to families, individuals, schools, and educators.

The mission of WEG is to help every child reach his or her potential.  Since 2005, WEG has served over 1,200 families, individuals, schools, and academic organizations throughout Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia.

Recently, WEG has worked with the Maryland State Department of Education, the District of Columbia Public Schools, Friendship School, Frost School, and Auburn School of Northern Virginia. WEG provides training on special education issues both locally and nationally. Local training has been provided for Fairfax County Public Schools, Loudoun County Public Schools, Arlington County Public Schools, Allegany County Public Schools, Accotink Academy, and Kingsbury Day School.

WEG provides regular presentations for local PTA’s and for special organizations such as Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD), Learning Disabilities Association (LDA), Gifted and Talented with  Learning Disabilities (GTLD Network), Maryland State Gifted and Talented Organization, and Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic.

WEG’s work with families and individuals includes educational advocacy, neuropsychological and psychological assessment, admissions assessment, speech and language assessment and advocacy, expert witness services, and a range of related services including behavior management, SAT accommodation, organizational coaching, occupational therapy, assistive technology, transition services, college counseling, and school placement.

WEG is affiliated with Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA), the Children’s Law Center (CLC), and the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation (HSC), providing subsidized advocacy and assessments to financially needy families and individuals.

WEG has instituted a “shared psychologist” program, providing training and consultation support from a WEG psychologist to small private schools.  This program has been in place at The Grace Episcopal Schools since 2010.

In Spring, 2010, WEG presented a three day conference on special education issues, “Diamonds in the Rough: Smart Kids who Learn Differently,” at the University of Maryland, Shady Grove. The conference drew over 800 educators, child specialists, and parents from across the United States as well as other countries.

Each year, WEG hosts a local conference, “The DC Area Special Learning Needs Sampler,” which brings together special needs service providers from throughout the DC region to provide information to parents of children with special needs.

WEG has teamed with Alvord Baker Group, to host a speaker series, bringing prominent local and national speakers to the DC area to train parents and professionals in current trends and best practices in special education.

Mr. Weinfeld is also Director and co-owner of Special Needs Advocacy Training Institute, providing ongoing, graduate level, training on all phases of best practices in special education. In 2008, Mr. Weinfeld, was co-host of a weekly internet radio show entitled, “Teach Your Children Well,” which featured many leaders in the area of both general and special education.

Mr. Weinfeld manages a Leadership Team at WEG, comprised of a Director of Training and School Consultation, a Director of Psychological and Behavioral Services, a Director of Related Student Services, and a Director of Advocacy Services.   More than 30 affiliated professionals, including educational consultants, neuropsychologists, psychologists, behavior intervention specialists, assistive technology specialists, speech pathologists, reading specialists, and gifted education specialists are engaged to provide services according to the unique needs of each client or academic setting.

Since 2005, members of the group have authored eight best-selling, critically acclaimed books on special education issues which have become the foundation for many of the educational programs in place at WEG today.
